Honoring Heroes at Henry's Home
A Day of Service with the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Montgomery County
Some days at work look like meetings and spreadsheets. And then there are days like the one our team recently had at Henry's Home Horse and Human Sanctuary — days that remind you what showing up for your community really means.
Through our partnership with the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Montgomery County, a group of CRCU team members had the privilege of spending the day volunteering at Henry's Home, a sanctuary nestled in our region dedicated to the healing and empowerment of Veterans and Retired First Responders. It was a day of dirt under our nails, conversation with kind people, and a whole new appreciation for the quiet, powerful work happening right in our own backyard.
A Place Built on Purpose
Before we even picked up a rake, we took a moment to learn about what Henry's Home is and who it serves. Their mission is straightforward but profound — to provide equine-assisted learning programs that support the well-being and rehabilitation of Veterans and Retired First Responders. Through the bond between humans and horses, heroes who have carried some of the heaviest burdens imaginable find a place to breathe, heal, and rediscover themselves.
It is the kind of mission that does not need a lot of explaining once you set foot on the grounds. You can feel it.
Getting Our Hands Dirty
Our team was there to work, and work we did. The day was filled with weed eating, planting, and general grounds upkeep — the kind of tasks that keep a sanctuary functional and welcoming for both the people and horses who call it home. We also spent time in the stables, raking dirt and tidying up spaces for the horses — a simple but meaningful way to care for the animals that do so much for the veterans Henry's Home serves.
It was physical, it was humbling, and it was exactly what a volunteer day should feel like.
More Than a Morning of Work
What stayed with us long after we washed our hands and headed home was not the weed eating or the raking. It was the reminder that community is built one act of service at a time. Henry's Home exists because people believed that our veterans and first responders deserved a place to heal. And it keeps going because communities like ours choose to show up.
At CRCU, that is something we take seriously. We are not just here to help our members with their finances — we are here to be a part of the communities we serve, in every way we can.
We are grateful to the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Montgomery County for making this day possible, and to the incredible team at Henry's Home for welcoming us with open arms — and open stables.
