Crystal Lake RV Resort: A Decade of Growth Powered by Community Resource Credit Union

When Crystal Lake RV Resort first opened its gates in 2014, it was little more than a vision.

“We had about 65 asphalt units and 88 self-storage units. That was it,” said Ron Khowaja, General Manager of Crystal Lake RV Resort. “No clubhouse. No amenities. No pool. Just a small front office with a couple of shower rooms.”

But Ron and his team saw something bigger. As the surrounding area began to grow, so did the demand for higher-end RV living. They knew Crystal Lake could become more than a place to park an RV — it could become a destination.

That’s when they turned to Community Resource Credit Union.

A Financial Partner That Believed in the Vision

Ron approached CRCU with a plan to expand and elevate the park.

“We told them, ‘This area is growing. People want a higher-end RV park. Here’s our vision. Would you be willing to help fund this expansion?’” Ron said. “They looked at the project and said, ‘This is a home run.’”

That first loan became the foundation for what would turn into a decade-long partnership. Over the next ten years, Crystal Lake RV Resort didn’t just grow — it evolved. With CRCU’s support, the park expanded, refinanced, and scaled multiple times to meet demand.

“In these 10 years, we’ve been able to expand, refinance, and even grow our loan with CRCU,” Ron explained.

The Duplex Cabin Project: A New Level of Hospitality

The most recent milestone in Crystal Lake’s growth was the Duplex Cabin Project — a major upgrade that transformed the resort’s offerings.

The project included 15 buildings with two units each, creating 30 fully furnished, one-bedroom cabins designed for modern travelers.

“These cabins are about 435 square feet each,” Ron said. “They’re fully furnished — kitchen, living room, bedroom, TV, Wi-Fi — everything you’d need. People can show up with just their clothes.”

This expansion allowed Crystal Lake to attract guests who may not even own an RV — opening the resort to short-term stays, traveling professionals, and vacationers who want a comfortable, turnkey experience.

And once again, CRCU made it possible.

Why CRCU Was the Right Fit

For Ron, the difference between CRCU and a traditional bank was clear from day one.

“The biggest difference is caring for the people,” he said. “A credit union is owned by its members. Instead of paying dividends to shareholders, they give you better interest rates and better returns on your savings.”

As a locally owned, family-run business, Crystal Lake RV Resort wanted a financial partner that shared those values.

“We’re a mom-and-pop shop. We wanted to partner with a credit union because they’re for the people and for the local community,” Ron added.

A Relationship Built on Trust

Over the years, CRCU didn’t just provide one loan — they continued to support Crystal Lake through multiple phases of growth.

“We’ve refinanced this loan and added funds probably four or five times,” Ron said. “A lot of banks would say, ‘We did phase one, go somewhere else.’ CRCU never did that.”

Each time Crystal Lake presented a new expansion idea, CRCU listened.

“We told them, ‘This is the demand. This is where the growth is.’ And every time they said, ‘We believe in you. We trust you,’” Ron said. “It was a home run for both sides.”

More Than a Financial Institution

For Ron, CRCU isn’t just a lender — it’s a true partner.

“It’s like talking to friends who actually care about what you’re trying to do,” he said. “From the tellers to the business loan officers, everyone is phenomenal.”

That level of care has helped Crystal Lake RV Resort grow into one of the area’s most trusted and well-reviewed destinations.

Looking Ahead

Today, Crystal Lake RV Resort continues to welcome guests from across Texas and beyond — whether they arrive with an RV or stay in one of the fully furnished cabins.

And their partnership with CRCU isn’t slowing down.

“Without CRCU, we wouldn’t be where we are today,” Ron said. “I hope our relationship continues to grow and we can keep making more projects happen.”
