Debit Card Fraud Notifications

CRCU now provides automated fraud detection and alerts for your debit card. As a result, you’ll receive notifications from an automated text message or phone call should we detect a potential fraudulent transaction. 

The valid numbers that will appear on your caller ID:

  • Telephone Call:    877-230-3179
  • Text Message:       33748    

These text messages will never ask you for your account information, just a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ response in order to verify transactions. Our experienced fraud analysts monitor potential fraud 24 hours a day, seven days a week and 365 days a year. Therefore, fraud is identified early to minimize its impact and allow quick, positive action to reduce fraud losses. Click to learn more about how we identify potential fraud.

How to Opt-Out
To opt-out of CRCU Text Fraud Alerts, reply STOP to the message. An unsubscribe message will not be sent confirming the cancellation, and no more fraud alert text messages will be sent.

Q: Will I automatically be enrolled for the fraud alert service?

A: The new fraud alerting service will be provided automatically to all CRCU members.

Q: How do you determine if  I receive a voice call or an SMS/text message?

A: It depends on whether the phone numbers we have on file are landlines or mobile devices. If a mobile phone number exists, we will send a SMS/text message. Otherwise, a voice message is sent.

Q: Are there costs to the cardholder for receiving SMS/text alerts?

A: If you have your mobile service through Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, or Sprint, we will send text messages using “Free To End User” texting. As the name implies, there is no cost to receive text messages from these carriers. All other mobile carriers do not support Free To End User texting. We will send voice messages to these mobile devices.

Q: Are there costs to the cardholder for responding to an alert?

A: Calls from a landline to CRCU should be free. Calls from a mobile device would count against your mobile plan for voice call minutes. Similarly SMS/text messages from your mobile device would count against your mobile plan text message rates.

Below is a sample of the text alert messaging that we send:

  • Text from CRCU – 33748:
    FreeMsg:  Community Resource Credit Union Fraud Dept: Possible unauthorized txn on acct ending in 1234: $22.22 processed by Julie’s Jewelry Store. If authorized reply “YES”, otherwise reply “NO”.

  • If YES reply received:
    FreeMsg: Community Resource Credit Union Fraud Dept: You have confirmed a purchase of $22.22 at Julie’s Jewelry Store. We apologize for any inconvenience. Your acct can now be used without concern.

  • If NO reply received:
    FreeMsg: Community Resource Credit Union Fraud Dept: Thank you for your reply. A fraud specialist will call you immediately to protect your account. Please answer this important call.
Debit Card Fraud Alerts

Remember, Community Resource Credit Union will never send messages requesting your personal information, including card numbers, passwords or PIN. If you receive a message asking for your personal or confidential information – do not respond.
