CRCU is aware of the most recent card compromise that took place at the major retail chain, Target. As of December 19, we are working with our data processing company to determine if any of our member's card information is a part of the compromise.
A data compromise is an organized theft of ATM, debit or credit card information. Each time you visit a merchant and pay with your card, your card number is stored with the merchant/acquirer for a short time before the information is deleted. In rare cases, the data is not deleted and becomes vulnerable to compromise. Thieves have learned how to obtain this data, which can contain millions of card numbers.
What to Expect
Learning that your credit or debit card information may have been compromised can be distressing. If your card account data has been compromised, here are some important things to know:
- We may proactively close your card and reissue a new card to help protect your account
- If we reissue a new card, that does not necessarily mean fraud has or will occur on your account
- You may report any unauthorized transactions on your account by calling 800.442.4757, anytime day or night.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us - we are here to help.
